Softball Recap: St. Mary's Ryken Falls Short Against Ranked Bishop O'connell

St. Mary's Ryken is ranked highly in their home state and on Tuesday they took on another highly ranked team in the form of Bishop O'Connell. St. Mary's Ryken fell just short of Bishop O'Connell by a score of 3-1. The defeat continues a trend for St. Mary's Ryken in their meetings with Bishop O'Connell: they've now lost eight in a row.

Emmaleigh Zagrodnichek spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on nine hits.

On the hitting side, St. Mary's Ryken saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Mikaela Guy, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI. That double was Guy's first of the season.

St. Mary's Ryken's loss dropped their record down to 5-3. As for Bishop O'Connell, the win keeps they at an undefeated 8-0.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. St. Mary's Ryken will venture away from home to take on Our Lady of Good Counsel at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Knights are facing the Falcons at the right time seeing as the Falcons are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Bishop O'Connell, they will challenge Bishop Ireton at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
