Softball Recap: Leon Drops Highest Score of Season Against Jefferson County

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Leon). They never let the Jefferson County Tigers get on the board and left with a 31-0 victory on Tuesday. The Lions might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four matches by eight runs or more this season.

Taylor Winfield made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Winfield was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring four runs and stealing Three bases. while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances. She also brought in an RBI, marking her first of the season.

In other batting news, Jailyn Nickeo was incredible, scoring four runs and stealing Six bases. while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances. Cynthia Conte was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple.

Leon always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .829. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Jefferson County only posted an OBP of .438.

Leon's win bumped their record up to 6-2. As for Jefferson County, their defeat was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-5.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Leon will face off against Florida State University High School at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Jefferson County, they will square off against Rickards at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Jefferson County is facing Rickards at the right time seeing as Rickards is stuck on a three-game losing streak.
