Baseball Recap: Wilson Comes Up Short

Wilson was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 4-3 heartbreaker at the hands of the Chattanooga Central Pounders.

Bryson Pickens put in work no matter where he played. He struck out seven batters over 6.1 innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off only two hits. Those seven strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Jack Darby made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4. He is becoming a predictor of Wilson's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 3-1 (and 5-13 when he doesn't). Rich Corum also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Wilson's defeat dropped their record down to 8-14. As for Chattanooga Central, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-8 record this season.

Wilson is taking a road trip to square off against Signal Mountain at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Wilson's pitchers better be ready for this one: Signal Mountain has averaged an impressive 8.2 runs per game this season. As for Chattanooga Central, they will be playing at home against Walker Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
