Basketball Recap: Amari Mitchell's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Tolleson over Mountain Ridge

Tolleson was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They took a 60-48 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Mountain Ridge Mountain Lions. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Wolverines of the 86-72 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in December of 2021.

Tolleson's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Amari Mitchell, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and ten rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Tafuma Abston, who posted seven points in addition to ten boards and four blocks.

Even though they lost, Tolleson smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in six consecutive matchups.

It was another big night for Jaiden Thompson, who scored 18 points and six rebounds for Mountain Ridge. Sam Muller was another key player, going 5 for 6 en route to 10 points and eight boards.

Tolleson's record is now 8-7. As for Mountain Ridge, their win ended a seven-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 9-8.

Tolleson has already played their next game, a 64-46 loss against Shadow Ridge on the 14th. As for Mountain Ridge, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 68-38 defeat against Liberty on the 17th.
