Softball Recap: Vaughn White Tigers vs. Valley Academy of Arts & Sciences Vipers
Vaughn extended their losing streak to five on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 2-6 in the process. They lost 17-4 to the Valley Academy of Arts & Sciences Vipers. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Vipers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 34-14 on Monday.
As for Valley Academy of Arts & Sciences, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-3. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matchups by nine runs or more this season.
For Valley Academy of Arts & Sciences' part, Emily McGrath was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. Those nine strikeouts gave McGrath a new career-high. She was even better at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jillian Hernandez, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with six RBI, one triple, and one run. Another player making a difference was Emily Abramson, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
