Basketball Recap: Sanaria Gunsby's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Vanguard over Eustis

Vanguard easily dispatched South Sumter last Friday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Vanguard Knights fell just short of the Eustis Panthers by a score of 41-38 on Tuesday. The defeat continues a trend for the Knights in their matchups with the Panthers: they've now lost five in a row.

Vanguard's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Sanaria Gunsby, who posted nine points along with seven steals and six boards. Gunsby is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last six games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kenaria Dowdy, who earned six points and four steals.

Vanguard's defeat dropped their record down to 5-3. As for Eustis, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 8-1.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Vanguard will head out to face off against North Marion at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Eustis, they will venture away from home to challenge East Ridge at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
