Nash Central will head out to face off against Princeton at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Nash Central is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.4 runs per game this season.
The home team had won the previous five meetings between Nash Central and Roanoke Rapids, and Roanoke Rapids kept the tradition alive. The Bulldogs fell 9-5 to the Yellowjackets on Thursday.
Nash Central saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Shea Whitley, who went 3-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI. That double marked the first that Whitley has hit this season. Another was Tyler Bowen, who went 1-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Princeton sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-3 win over Ayden - Grifton on Monday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Bulldogs.
Princeton let Macon Boone and Aston Massey run wild. Boone went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI, while Massey got on base in two of his three plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Branson Flynn, who got on base in two of his three plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.
Princeton pushed their record up to 12-5 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.3 runs over those games. As for Nash Central, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 13-6 record this season.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Nash Central has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.6 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Princeton struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.9 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Nash Central took their victory against Princeton when the teams last played back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 7-0 score. Does Nash Central have another victory up their sleeve, or will Princeton turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
