Portola had won four straight games and Connor Sheridan did his part to make it five on Thursday. The Portola Tigers took down the Maxwell Panthers 65-50 thanks in part to Sheridan, who dropped a double-double with 39 points and 16 boards. The match was his 19th in a row with at least 17 points.

Magnus Berg was another key player, putting up 17 points in addition to seven rebounds and four steals. He is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 17 or more in each of the last four games he's played.

Despite the defeat, Maxwell saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Vincent Orozco went 5-for-12 en route to 17 points and three steals. Those 17 points set a new season-high mark for Orozco. The team also got some help courtesy of Noel Velazquez, who posted five points and three steals.

Portola's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 20-7. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 72.3 points over those games. As for Maxwell, they have been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last ten contests, which has put a noticeable dent in their 8-11 record this season.

Portola and Maxwell are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. Portola will square off against Modoc at 6:00 p.m. on February 21st. One thing working in Portola's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last six games. As for Maxwell, a feisty cat fight will be fought as the Panthers challenge the Lions at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
