Softball Recap: Southeastern Find Success

Southeastern came out on top against Paint Valley on Wednesday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run sixth inning. The Panthers walked away with a 6-2 victory over the Bearcats. Six seems to be a good number for the Panthers as the team scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.

Kylie Williams was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out 17 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. Those 17 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two runs.

In other batting news, Mallorie Elam and Elle Stewart did most of the damage at the plate: Elam went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double, while Stewart went 1-for-2 with three RBI and one run. Those three RBI gave Stewart a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Lydia Williams, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.

Southeastern hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Paint Valley struck out 17 times.

The victory made it two in a row for Southeastern and bumps their season record up to 6-10. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 6 runs in those games. As for Paint Valley, they have been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last ten contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-9 record this season.

Southeastern will host Peebles at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Panthers are facing the Indians at the right time seeing as the Indians are stuck on a five-game losing streak. As for Paint Valley, they will head out on the road to face off against Unioto at 5:15 p.m. on Friday. The Bearcats' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Shermans have averaged an impressive 7.7 runs per game this season.
