Somerset won the last time they faced St. Croix Central and things went their way on Thursday too. The Spartans were the clear victors by an 8-2 margin over the Panthers. The result was nothing new for the Spartans, who have now won eight matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Marissa Wegleitner spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on four hits and racked up nine Ks.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Chloe Greeder, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one double. Another player making a difference was Olivia Johnson, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double.

Somerset was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .455. The last time their batting average was this high was back in March.

The win (which was Somerset's fourth in a row) raised their record to 15-6. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for St. Croix Central, their defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 3-8.

Looking ahead, Somerset will take on Osceola at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for St. Croix Central, they will face off against Rice Lake at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
