Baseball Recap: Stoneman Douglas Wins High-Profile Matchup Against St. Thomas Aquinas

Stoneman Douglas faced St. Thomas Aquinas in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Eagles walked away with a 5-2 victory over the Raiders. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 3-1 back in February.

Gio Rojas was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one double.

In other batting news, Bennett Gary was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run and two runs. Another player making a difference was Michael Ossenfort, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run.

Stoneman Douglas lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. That's the most home runs they've posted since back in April of 2024.

Stoneman Douglas' win bumped their record up to 18-2. As for St. Thomas Aquinas, the defeat snapped their winning streak at seven games and leaves them with a 15-5-1 record.

Coming up, Stoneman Douglas will head out to face off against Fort Lauderdale at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Eagles' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Flying L's have averaged an impressive 6.6 runs per game this season. As for St. Thomas Aquinas, they will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Nova at 7:00 p.m.
