Baseball Recap: San Leandro Gets the Win

San Leandro barely beat San Lorenzo the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Pirates' pitcher stepped up to hand the Grizzlies a 10-0 shutout on Friday. The Pirates haven't had any issues with the Grizzlies recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive win against them.

Jayson Grady tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out seven over five innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up a single earned run in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Gary Ferguson, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Christian Orta, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.

San Leandro always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .606. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

San Leandro's record now sits at 8-6. As for San Lorenzo, their defeat ended a six-game streak of away wins and brought them to 11-3.

Coming up, San Leandro will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against St. Joseph Notre Dame at 4:00 p.m. As for San Lorenzo, they will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Mt. Eden at 4:00 p.m. on the 23rd.
