Preview: Robinson Knights vs. Sumner Stingrays
Two dominant players in Jordan Mickens and Jacob Douglas are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Robinson Knights will be staying on the road on Tuesday to face off against the Sumner Stingrays at 8:00 p.m. on January 16th. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the pair posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Last Wednesday, Robinson didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Jefferson, but they still walked away with a 75-70 victory.
Mickens continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 35 points along with seven assists and seven steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Dylan Russell, who scored 16 points along with six rebounds.
Meanwhile, Sumner entered their tilt with Bloomingdale with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Sumner came out on top against Bloomingdale by a score of 64-53 on Friday.
It was another big night for Douglas, who scored 17 points along with nine assists and five steals. He has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last seven times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Isaiah Williams, who scored nine points along with 12 rebounds and three blocks.
Robinson pushed their record up to 10-7 with that win, which was their third straight on the road. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 72.7 points per game. As for Sumner, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine contests, which provided a nice bump to their 12-4 record this season.
Robinson came up short against Sumner in their previous meeting back in January of 2022, falling 68-59. Can Robinson avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
