Newbury Park had lost five straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Friday they dropped down to 4-4 to make it six. They fell 29-23 to the Westlake Warriors. The Panthers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Warriors apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in October of 2024.

Despite the defeat, Newbury Park saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Darrien Johnson rushed for 64 yards and one score, and also picked up 52 receiving yards and one TD.

As for Westlake, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 8-0. Those wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 38.3 points this season.

Westlake's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Demanie Bell, who rushed for 148 yards and one touchdown while picking up 7.8 yards per carry, and also caught one score. Bell's rushing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his fourth straight game with at least 123 rushing yards. Niles Davis was another key player, picking up 193 receiving yards and a pair of TDs.

Newbury Park wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 17-7 loss against Thousand Oaks on the 24th. As for Westlake, they have also already played their next contest, a 33-14 victory against Santa Barbara on the 24th.
