Volleyball Recap: Sumter's Winning Streak Snapped at Four Games

It was a good run, but Sumter unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-match winning streak on Thursday. They fell just short of the West Florence Knights by a score of 2-1. The Gamecocks were not able to make up for their defeat to the Knights from their previous meeting back in October of 2024.

In a back-and-forth that saw neither team win consecutive sets, Sumter sadly dropped the once that decided the match. The match finished with set scores of 25-16, 23-25, 25-13.

West Florence was led to victory by Tate Cannon and Pearson Frick-Mueksch. Cannon had 14 digs and two aces, while Frick-Mueksch had 13 digs and two aces. Cannon is on a roll when it comes to digs, as he's now had 13 or more in each of the last four games he's played. Chris Davis also deserves some recognition as he served his first ace of the season.

Sumter's loss dropped their record down to 6-5. As for West Florence, their win ended a three-match drought on the road and puts them at 11-12.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Sumter beat the Knights by a score of 2-1 on Tuesday.
