Baseball Recap: Centennial's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

Centennial hadn't done well against Champaign Central recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. The Chargers walked away with an 8-4 win over the Maroons. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Chargers as it put an end to their four-game losing streak.

Cal Meyers was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one walk in seven consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.

Meyers wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Kam Murphy, who went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI. That's the most hits Murphy has posted since April 3rd. Tate Sauer was another, getting on base in two of his five plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

Centennial's win bumped their record up to 8-10. As for Champaign Central, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 11-11-1.

Centennial will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Maroons: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
