Softball Recap: Laney Starts Season with Victory at Home

Laney gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Thursday. They put the hurt on the Dixon Bulldogs with a sharp 9-1 victory. For the Buccaneers, this counts as revenge for the 7-6 win the Bulldogs walked away with the last time they faced one another back in March of 2024.

Laney let Layla Carr and Isabella Stevens run wild. Carr scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances, while Stevens went 3-for-4 with four RBI and one double. What's more, Stevens posted three hits, the most she's had since back in March of 2024. Carly Krueger was another key player, scoring three runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Dixon's defeat dropped their record down to 0-2.

Coming up, Laney will take on Harnett Central at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Dixon, they will face off against Southwest Onslow at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
