Basketball Recap: Damian Lanton Key Part of Team Effort in Bulldogs Win

Sparta hadn't done well against Wesclin recently (they were 1-6 in their previous seven matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Sparta Bulldogs strolled past the Wesclin Warriors with points to spare, taking the game 70-55. This was a revenge game for the Bulldogs: when they faced off against the Warriors back in December of 2024, they had to take a 72-56 loss.

Sparta's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Damian Lanton, who went 7-for-12 en route to 23 points and five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of DJ Hayes, who went 9-for-12 on his way to 22 points.

Sparta pushed their record up to 18-11 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.3 points over those games. As for Wesclin, their defeat dropped their record down to 17-12.

Looking ahead, Sparta won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Red Bud at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Sparta is facing Red Bud at the right time seeing as Red Bud is stuck on a five-game losing streak. Wesclin does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
