Basketball Recap: Kelsi Maier's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Hoisington over Haven

Hoisington lost against Haven back in February of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Hoisington Cardinals took a 54-42 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Haven Wildcats. While losing is never fun, the Cardinals can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 207th, while the Wildcats are ranked 91st).

Hoisington's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kelsi Maier, who almost dropped a double-double with ten points and nine rebounds. What's more, Maier also posted three assists, the most she's had since back in December of 2024. Kinley Wilkens was another key player, putting up six points and three steals.

Even though they lost, Hoisington smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their offensive rebound total in three consecutive contests.

Hoisington has traveled a rocky road recently having lost eight of their last nine matches, which has put a noticeable dent in their 5-11 record this season. As for Haven, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 11-4-1.

Hoisington wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 63-40 victory against Nickerson on the 14th. As for Haven, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 51-34 defeat against Halstead on the 14th.
