Preview: Rancho Cotate Cougars vs. Windsor Jaguars
Two dominant signal callers in Jacob Pruitt and Judson Anderson are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Rancho Cotate Cougars are on the road again on Friday and play against the Windsor Jaguars at 7:00 p.m. on November 17th. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Rancho Cotate had no problem doing just that on Friday. They blew past Granada 40-18. The score was close at the half, but Rancho Cotate pulled away in the second half with 27 points.
Rancho Cotate got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Pruitt out in front who rushed for 99 yards and three touchdowns on only eight carries, and also threw for 112 yards and a touchdown while completing 100% of his passes. Geovanny Ortiz was another major influence, as he rushed for 83 yards and ran in a TD.
Meanwhile, Windsor had already won eight in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 31.3 points), and they went ahead and made it nine on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Vintage 49-13 at home. Given Windsor's advantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 95th, while Vintage is ranked 312th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Anderson , who threw for 119 yards and three touchdowns while completing 94.1% of his passes. Anderson has been hot recently, having posted three or more passing touchdowns the last three times he's played. Gunnar Erickson was in the mix too, providing Windsor with two touchdowns.
Rancho Cotate's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-4. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 43.4 points per game. As for Windsor, their win bumped their record up to 9-1-1.
Rancho Cotate was dealt a bruising 35-7 loss at the hands of Windsor in their previous meeting back in October. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Windsor's Anderson , who threw for 202 yards and three touchdowns, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground.
