Baseball Recap: Wahkiakum Find Success

While Wahkiakum's victory against Ocosta wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Mules skirted past the Wildcats 5-4. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 8-0 back in March.

Wahkiakum got a great performance from Emory Filkowski as he pitched five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Cooper Carlson, who went 3-for-4 with two doubles, one stolen base, and one run. Carlson is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least one every time he's taken the field this season. Matthew Wills was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run.

Wahkiakum's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-1. As for Ocosta, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-6.

Looking ahead, Wahkiakum will head out on the road to face off against Naselle at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Comets will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something the Mules surely won't give up without a fight. As for Ocosta, they will look to defend their home field on Saturday against Ilwaco at 1:00 p.m. The Fishermen's pitching crew has only allowed 1.3 runs per game this season, so the Wildcats' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
