Basketball Game Preview: Western Warriors vs. Del Sol Dragons

Western and Del Sol are an even 5-5 against one another since December of 2015, but not for long. The Western Warriors will look to defend their home court on Thursday against the Del Sol Dragons at 6:30 p.m. Both have had a bumpy ride up to this point with four consecutive losses apiece.

Last Tuesday, Western came up short against Shadow Ridge and fell 73-64.

Meanwhile, it's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 90-61, which was the final score in Del Sol's tilt against Pinecrest Academy Sloan Canyon on Tuesday. While the Dragons didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Pirate 19-15 in the first quarter.

Western will need focus on slowing down James Heath, one of several Del Sol players who made an impact when they last played. He posted 11 points in addition to five assists and five boards. William Philips was another key player, putting up six points along with ten rebounds and four steals.

Even though they lost, Del Sol smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in three consecutive games.

Western's defeat dropped their record down to 5-12. As for Del Sol, their loss dropped their record down to 3-10.

Western was able to grind out a solid victory over Del Sol in their previous matchup back in February of 2024, winning 65-53. Does Western have another victory up their sleeve, or will Del Sol turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
