Basketball Recap: Elmira Falls Despite Big Games from Mariah Matias and Addison Taft

Elmira was the 50-29 winner over Hornell when they last played one another back in December of 2016, but their luck changed this time around. The Elmira Express fell to the Hornell Red Raiders 49-43. While the Express didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Red Raiders 15-5 in the first quarter.

Elmira's loss on Monday came despite strong showings from Addison Taft and Mariah Matias. Taft went 5-for-12 on her way to 15 points and four steals, while Matias dropped a double-double with 17 points and 15 rebounds. Matias' afternoon made it four games in a row in which she has scored at least 15 points.

Elmira's defeat dropped their record down to 13-5. As for Hornell, their win bumped their record up to 15-3.

Elmira does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Hornell, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 70-27 victory against Livonia on the 18th.
