Softball Recap: Bethel Drops Highest Score of Season Against Richmond

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Bethel). They put the hurt on the Richmond Oilers with a sharp 35-7 win on Monday. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Jaguars as it put an end to their four-game losing streak.

Saniyah Gray was a standout: she scored four runs and stole seven bases while getting on base in all six of her plate appearances. Those seven stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Lily Fjellman was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one home run, four stolen bases, and four runs.

Bethel always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .902. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Bethel's win was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-6-1 and their overall record up to 2-12-1. As for Richmond, their loss was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-5.

Looking ahead, Bethel will challenge Fairfield at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Jaguars' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Falcons have averaged an impressive 12.9 runs per game this season. As for Richmond, they will face off against Vallejo at 4:00 p.m. on the 23rd.
