Player of the Year: Rachel Garcia, Highland (Palmdale, Calif.), P

Statistically, Garcia's senior high school season reads more like a career than 31 games. And it doesn't matter if you are reading her offensive or totals.

In 175 innings, she struck out 418 of the 568 batters she faced. She won 26 of 28 games, pitched 22 shutouts and allowed just five earned runs. Her ERA was 0.20 and she walked just 13 batters.



Offensively, she batted .667, hit 20 home runs and drove in 57. Her slugging percentage was 1.411 and her OPS was 2.131. She had a base hit in all but one of Highland's games and hit three home runs in a game three times. In her final 10 high school games, Garcia hit a dozen home runs and batted in 29 runs.

In her final 92 innings pitched, the future UCLA Bruin allowed just five base hits and no earned runs.

But perhaps the most amazing stat is that she limited opposing hitters to just 37 base hits while collecting 68 of her own. Garcia had 34 extra-base hits and allowed just two extra-base hits.

As a result of her outstanding season, Garcia is the MaxPreps Medium Schools Softball Player of the Year for 2015. She was also a finalist for MaxPreps' overall National Player of the Year.

A four-time MaxPreps All-American, Garcia also was named to the MaxPreps All-American Team and was recently named Gatorade National Player of the Year.

Garcia led Highland to the Southern Section Division 4 title game against Torrance in which she pitched 12 innings, allowed just two hits and struck out 24. But in the 13th inning, she injured her knee and could not pitch. The Bulldogs lost, 1-0.



Both of Garcia's 2015 losses were one-run defeats. The first was to West Ranch, 3-2, when she struck out 14, but allowed a season-high four hits. Garcia allowed two hits or less in 27 of her games pitched.

The other loss was an eight-inning, 24-strikeout performance where the winning run was placed on second by the international tie-breaker rule and eventually scored on a throwing error. No walks and no base hits, but a loss.

The 5-foot-7 righthander, who pitched 10 no-hitters (including five perfect games) in 2015, finished her Highland career with a 0.48 ERA and 1,315 strikeouts in 601 innings. Opponents batted .099 against her. She pitched 57 shutouts and batted .593 with 44 home runs and 152 RBIs.

Coach of the Year: Mark Montimurro, Coral Springs Charter (Fla.), 29-0-1

Montimurro has coached the Panthers for three seasons and has compiled a 69-10-1 record. The only blemish on the 2015 schedule is a nine-inning, 1-1 tie with Martin (Chicago) where the Panthers had 14 hits.

The Panthers, led by sophomore all-American Allison Muraskin, outscored their foes 246-21 and won 18 contests by shutout.



They won Florida's 4A state title, 3-1 over West Nassau, and outscored opponents 27-2 in five playoff contests.

Coral Springs Charter was led in hitting by one of its two seniors, Casey Huber (.500, 29 runs) and all-state junior Kayla Scaperrotta (20 extra-base hits, 31 RBIs, 51 hits).

Muraskin was 26-0 and had 293 strikeouts in 149 innings.

Team of the Year: Enka (N.C.), 29-0, 3A state champions

Enka has won 40 of its last 42 games, including all 29 in 2015. Along with that perfect season came the 3A state 3A when the team averaged 10 runs per game.

Enka was at its best when the playoffs started, winning eight times and outscoring its opponents 66-10. And during the regular season, it routed 4A perennial power North Davidson, 9-3.



Enka catcher Jordan Harris, who has signed with Appalachian State, was named MVP of the state tournament and in the process set a western North Carolina record for single-season RBIs (53).

Pitchers Courtney Pearson (15-0) and Katie Grace Olinger (14-0) were all-state players, with Pearson honored as the 3A West Pitcher of the Year. Also named all-state were teammates Harris, Jasmine Palmer, Addison Harris, Brittany Fletcher and Kloyee Anderson. Only Jordan Harris and Palmer are seniors.


P - Brittany Finney, Bishop Carroll (Wichita, Kan.), Sr.
A member of the All-American Team, Finney was also a National POY finalist after hitting .774 with 17 home runs and 54 RBIs in leading Carroll to the MaxPreps national title. She was also unbeaten in the circle at 14-0 and struck out 112 batters in 70 innings while allowing just 20 hits. She cranked 13 doubles and three triples, scored 35 runs and drew 25 walks, striking out just once. She finished the season with an .846 on-base percentage and a 1.903 slugging percentage and concluded her prep softball career with a state-record 38 home runs. She will play at Oklahoma.

P - Colette Robert, McLoughlin (Milton-Freewater, Ore.), Sr.
Named the Oregon Softball Player of the Year, Robert led Mac-Hi to the state final for the third-straight year, repeating as state champs in 2014 and 2015. Bound for New Mexico, Robert was 28-1 and pitched all 188 innings for the Pioneers. She finished with 291 strikeouts and a 0.77 ERA and only walked 12 of 664 batters faced. Robert led the team with a .624 batting average while driving in 51 RBIs with 16 doubles, six home runs and two triples for a 1.059 slugging percentage.

P - Allison Block, Starpoint (Lockport, N.Y.), Sr.
Block pitched a one-hitter in the Class A-1 championship, a no-hitter in the Section VI Class A final and a one-hitter (broken up with two outs in the seventh inning) in the Far West Regional. She was 21-1 with an 0.83 ERA with eight shutouts and 250 strikeouts. She also had 46 hits in 75 at-bats for a .613 batting average as well as 30 RBIs. She has signed with Canisius.

P - Ashlee Swindle, Curry (Jasper, Ala.), Jr.
Swindle led Curry to a 4A state title with a 43-5 record, 0.22 ERA and 327 strikeouts. She was named to the Alabama Super Softball All-State Team, as well as being named the state 4A Pitcher and Player of the Year.



P - Allison Muraskin, Coral Springs Charter (Fla.), So.
Muraskin struck out 293 and posted a 0.52 ERA in leading Coral Springs Charter to the 4A state title. She has committed to Central Florida.

P - Allison Lipovsky, Harrison (Mich.), Sr.
Headed to Grand Valley State, Lipovsky had a memorable senior season, going 29-9 and striking out 438 in 235 innings.

P - Caitlyn Brooks, Burbank (Calif.), Sr.
Brooks, who has signed with Notre Dame, closed her career with another stellar season: 18-5, 0.66 ERA, 264 strikeouts in 149 innings, a .451 batting average and 26 RBIs, as the Bulldogs went 21-5 and reached the CIF Southern Section quarterfinals.

P - Maddie Damon, Kasson-Mantorville (Kasson, Minn.), Sr.
The state's all-time strikeout leader (1,286) led K-M to a second-straight 2A state title. She pitched 19 shutouts en route to a 25-2 record, 0.16 ERA and struck out 382 in 175 innings. She allowed just 44 hits, only two more than she collected at the plate (.433 average and 13 home runs). She has signed with Purdue.

P - Cayla Drotar, Hartsville (S.C.), Jr.
Drotar led the Red Foxes (29-3) to the Class 3A state championship series. The state's returning Gatorade Softball Player of the Year, Drotar posted a 21-3 record and a 0.68 ERA in the circle, along with a .635 batting average, 14 home runs and 62 RBIs at the plate. A five-time all-state selection, she struck out 209 batters in 143.2 innings, allowing just 48 hits. A MaxPreps Underclass All-American, she has committed to South Carolina.

P - Arissa Paulson, Payson (Ariz.), Jr.
Paulson posted a 26-2 record along with a 0.41 ERA in leading the Longhorns (34-2) to the D3 state title game. Paulson struck out 375 batters in 170 innings, allowing just 64 hits and 19 walks. The Arizona D3 Player of the Year, she recorded 18 shutouts, including six no-hitters. She batted .544 with 11 home runs and 59 RBIs and has committed to BYU.



P - Mallory Teunissen, Wayland (Mich.), Sr.
Teunissen concluded her senior season with a 30-2 record that included 401 strikeouts and a 0.23 ERA. She also batted .349 and allowed only six earned runs in 201 innings. For her prep career, she was 145-12. She will play at Davidson.

P - Annie Willis, Westminster Christian (Huntsville, Ala.), So.
Willis had 40 wins and 495 strikeouts (286 innings) to go with a 0.83 ERA. She pitched 30 shutouts and batted .385 with 51 RBIs.

C - Bailey Hemphill, St. Thomas More (Lafayette, La.), Jr.
Hemphill was walked 49 times in only 25 games, but she still hit .489 and clubbed nine homers with a .758 on-base percentage. A 4A all-state pick, Hemphill is also a three-time all-district catcher and was a second team all-district selection in basketball. As a sophomore, she hit .630 with 17 homers and led her team to a state title. She has committed to Alabama.

C - Lauren Buchanan, Bishop Carroll (Wichita, Kan.), Sr.
Buchanan batted .615, drove in 47 runs and had 22 extra-base hits in 25 games, but her coach said the best part of her game is her defense. The future Colorado State Ram played a major role in Bishop Carroll's unbeaten season and No. 1 national ranking.

C - Courtney Sleeman, Zeeland West (Mich.), Sr.
Sleeman had a .510 batting average with 77 RBIs and 15 home runs, falling three short of the all-time single season MHSAA record. She has signed with Western Michigan.

C - Caitlyn Emberson, Taft (Calif.), Sr.
Moving up a division did not hurt Emberson, as she batted .708 and drove in 61 runs. Her on-base percentage was .763 and she slugged 1.146 to help Taft win the CIF Central Section D3 title. In her four varsity seasons, Emberson batted .608.



IF - Darian Lindsey, Pendleton (Ore.), Sr.
Lindsey was named Oregon's 5A Player of the Year as a freshman, sophomore and this season. She will leave the program with the most hits in a season (65), most singles (42), most home runs (13), most stolen bases (34), most runs scored (62) and most at-bats (109). Pendleton won two titles and finished second once in her four varsity seasons. She has signed with Mt. Hood Community College.

IF - Tazia Hernandez, Empire (Tucson, Ariz.), Sr.
The speedy Hernandez put up impressive numbers for the third year in a row: batting .649, scoring 64 runs, collecting 74 hits and stealing 25 bases as Empire went 30-5 and won the state 3A title. She will attend Pima Community College.

IF - Toni Polk, Niagara Falls (N.Y.), Sr.
Polk led the Wolverines to a 12-3 record and the sectional tournament this season. She produced a .532 batting average with 12 RBIs and 16 runs scored. A two-time all-state honoree and two-time Niagara Frontier Player of the Year, she is headed to Penn State.

IF - Kinzie Johnson, River Hill (Clarksville, Md.), Sr.
Johnson set eight single-season program records: home runs (11), doubles (11), hits (54), batting average (.692), at-bats (78), runs (46), RBIs (44) and on-base percentage (.747). She has signed with Virginia Tech.

IF - Kellye Springstead, Tanque Verde (Tucson, Ariz.), Sr.
Springstead led the Hawks to a 28-3 record and the state 3A quarterfinals by batting .618 and driving in 62 runs. She also excelled in the circle, going 17-2 with 210 strikeouts in 111 innings and posting a 0.38 ERA.

IF - Ashton Lampton, Newton County (Decatur, Miss.), Sr.
Already signed with Mississippi, Lampton led Newton County to a 33-2 mark with 61 hits, a .575 average, 69 runs, 42 RBIs, 32 extra-base hits and 25 stolen bases.



IF - Navia Penrod, Lely (Naples, Fla.), Sr.
Penrod batted .653, hit 11 homers, scored 45 times and drove in 30. She also stole 37 bases and has signed with the University of North Florida.

IF - Paige Churchfield, Swan Valley (Saginaw, Mich.), Sr.
Churchfield hit at a .528 clip for the Vikings, clubbing 15 home runs and a school-record 77 RBIs. She also blasted a walk-off two-run homer in the district tournament for the Vikings, and she added two home runs in the regional round.

IF - Laina Su'esu'e, East (Salt Lake City), Jr.
East was only 16-13, but don't blame Su'esu'e, as she put up big numbers for the third-straight season: .624 average, .670 OBP, 58 hits, 51 runs and a .935 fielding percentage.

OF - Rachel Hammons, Bourgade Catholic (Phoenix), Fr.
Hammons batted .790 (83-for-105) and scored 76 times. She drove in 38 runs and was 68 of 69 in stolen base attempts. With 18 walks, her on base percentage was .821.

OF - Mia Camuso, Shasta (Redding, Calif.), Jr.
Camuso's power numbers included a CIF Northern Section record of 16 homers plus 61 RBIs and a .604 batting average. She captured the Northern Section's triple crown. She has committed to Oregon.

OF - Julia Hollingsworth, Ennis (Texas), Sr.
The Tulsa signee was SportsDay's Player of the Year in 2014 after setting the national record for most runs scored in a season with 83. In 2015, Hollingsworth had another excellent season, earning all-state recognition after hitting .573 with 12 triples and 22 steals. She scored 51 runs as a senior, giving her 252 for her career (d27 short of the all-time national record).



UTIL - Jenna Goodrich, American Heritage (Plantation, Fla.), Sr.
Goodrich posted a 15-1 record with a 0.38 ERA in leading the Patriots (25-2-1) to the Class 5A state championship game. She struck out 148 batters in 92 innings pitched, allowing just 25 hits and 21 walks while throwing four no-hitters. At the plate, the 2015 Miami Herald Player of the Year batted .471 with three home runs, 31 RBIs and a .743 slugging percentage. She has signed with Georgia Tech.

UTIL - Kenna DeLancey, Ritchie County (Ellenboro, W. Va.), Jr.
DeLancey (16-1, 0.67 ERA, 133 strikeouts in 84 1/3 innings) was named the 2A Player of the Year for the second year in a row, as the Rebels reached the state title game. She batted .602 with 11 doubles, three triples, 12 homers and 48 RBIs to go along with 34 stolen bases and a 1.205 slugging percentage.

UTIL - Preslee Gallaway, Pilot Point (Texas), Sr.
The Louisiana Tech signee was a standout in the circle (30-9 with a 1.66 ERA and 325 strikeouts in 235 innings), but the all-state pitcher put up even more impressive numbers as a hitter. Despite being walked 27 times — 17 percent of her plate appearances — Gallaway led Dallas-area players in hits (64), runs (58), triples (15) and RBIs (63), and she ranked second in home runs (12). She hit .492, and 59 percent of her hits went for extra bases.

Second Team

P - Ashtin Strickland, Santa Fe (Alachua, Fla.), Sr.
The Sun's Player of the Year and Florida Dairy Farmers Class 4A runner-up POY was 22-6 in the circle with a 0.94 ERA and 327 strikeouts (Class 4A best) in 175 innings pitched. At the plate, the Florida Atlantic signee hit .424 with a 4A-best nine home runs, nine doubles and 31 RBIs for the 22-8 Raiders.

P - Jamie Wren, La Serna (Whittier, Calif.), Sr.
Wren had her second-straight 25-3 season and was again named the Whittier Prep Sports Player of the Year. She hit .455 and drove in a team-high 34 runs. In the circle, Wren was dominant with a 25-3 mark to go with a 1.13 ERA. She also had 176 strikeouts in 192 innings and threw 11 shutouts. She has signed with Ohio University.

P - Peyton Pignolia, Curtis (River Ridge, La.), Sr.
Pignolia had 267 strikeouts in 158 innings with a 1.37 ERA and a 21-3 record in leading Curtis to the state 3A title. She also batted .370 and finished with 17 RBIs.



P - Megan Guitar, Croswell-Lexington (Croswell, Mich.), Sr.
Guitar was dominant on the mound with a 23-8 record, 336 strikeouts and a 1.47 ERA. She finished the season first-team all-state and also was the Times Herald Softball Player of the Year. Guitar, who has signed with Wayne State, was equally impressive at the plate with a .445 batting average.

P - Nicole Williams, St. Joseph (Trumbull, Conn.), Jr.
Williams went 23-0 with 213 strikeouts in 138 innings, a 0.66 ERA and a .438 batting average in leading her team to the Class M state title.

P - Abby Swaney, Springville (Ala.), 8th
That 8 is not a typographical error. Swaney is the first eighth-grader to make a MaxPreps All-American Softball Team after she pitched her team to a 5A state title and was named to Alabama's Super State Team after winning 33 games and striking out 279 batters. In the state tournament, the state's 5A Pitcher of the year pitched 28 innings, allowed 17 hits, two runs (one earned), walked five and struck out 26 for a 0.25 ERA. She allowed just two hits, no walks and struck out six in the championship game – facing only 23 batters. She was the MVP of the state tournament.

P - Missy Zoch, La Grange (Texas), Jr.
In 162 innings, Zoch allowed just six earned runs (0.26 ERA) and struck out 229. She finished 26-2, losing her final two starts of the season to state 4A champion Hargrave (Huffman). She pitched 19 shutouts and has committed to DePaul.

P - Caitlin Perry, Alabama Christian Academy (Montgomery, Ala.), Sr.
Middle-schooler Swaney may have stolen the spotlight in Alabama, but Perry had another award-winning year, finishing 28-10 with a 1.21 ERA and 311 strikeouts in 220 innings. She finished her high school career with 121 wins.

P - Baylee Ports, Mount Anthony (Bennington, Vt.), Sr.
Named the Gatorade POY for Vermont, Ports led the Patriots to a repeat D1 state title, losing just once for the season. She will attend Miss Hall's School, a prep school in Pittsfield, Mass.



P - Arizona Pilgrim, Taft (Calif.), Sr.
Pilgrim had another impressive year, winning 26 of 31 games and striking out 293 in 169 innings. Her ERA was 0.54. She finished with 103 wins, a 0.83 ERA and 1028 strikeouts in 638 innings. She will attend Charleston Southern University.

C - Carly Testa, St. Joseph (Hammonton, N.J.), Sr.
Testa batted .617 with a .659 on-base percentage this season and slugged .972 with 16 doubles, two triples and six home runs. She also led the state with 67 runs scored. She will play at Caldwell.

C - Stephanie Abello, Benet Academy (Lisle, Ill.), Sr.
Abello, who has signed with Illinois, hit 13 homers as a senior to set a career mark in Illinois with 60. She batted .369 and finished with a program career-best 211 RBIs.

C - Dayla Gulledge, Rehobeth (Dothan, Ala.), Sr.
Gulledge had a .486 batting average with 52 hits while leading the Wiregrass in home runs (14), doubles (24), extra-base hits (38), runs batted in (64) and walks (59). She also scored 59 runs. She has signed with South Alabama.

IF - Rebekah Cervantes, Redwood (Visalia, Calif.), Sr.
A MaxPreps A-A repeat, the 2014 Times-Delta/Advance-Register Player of the Year had another standout season. The Rangers senior hit .500 with 37 RBIs, 14 extra-base hits and 32 runs. Cervantes has signed with Boise State.

IF - Olivia Gray, Trinity (Washington, Pa.), Sr.
Gray was named the state AAA POY after she batted .611 with 15 doubles, four triples, seven home runs, 44 runs and struck out only once in 91 plate appearances for the Hillers, who reached the PIAA Class AAA championship game. She has signed with Pittsburgh.



IF - Darby Bishop, Newton County (Decatur, Miss.), Sr.
Bishop batted .480 and drove in 40 runs to lead Newton to the 4A state title. In the circle, she was 22-1 with a 1.62 ERA. She has signed with LSU-Eunice.

IF - Jasmine Palmer, Enka (N.C.), Sr.
The Florida State recruit batted .580 with four home runs and 23 RBIs as Enka finished the season 29-0 and won the state 3A title.

IF - Morgan Turkoly, Sanger (Texas), Sr.
The Louisiana Tech signee batted .810 with runners in scoring position and the District 9-4A MVP hit .657 overall (13 doubles, six triples and 10 home runs). The all-state shortstop made only two errors in 69 chances and scored 42 runs with 38 RBIs and 25 stolen bases. Helped by drawing 25 walks, Turkoly had a .750 on-base percentage.

IF - Brooke Samios-Uy, Eastern Tech (Baltimore), Sr.
Samios-Uy broke school records for career batting average (.569), doubles (26) and hits (140). As a senior, she had 11 doubles, three triples and seven homers and batted .652, with 47 hits and 33 RBIs. She has signed with Saint Leo University.

IF - Megan Lane, Hernando (Brooksville, Fla.), Sr.
Lane batted .646, scored 53 runs and stole 87 bases. For her career, she had 203 hits and 247 stolen bases to go along with a .517 batting average. She will play at Mercer.

IF - Erika Underwood, Addison (Mich.), Sr.
Underwood posted a career-high batting average of .647 this season with 18 doubles, nine triples, 11 home runs and 37 RBIs. She has signed with Central Michigan.



IF - Fa Leilua, Hawthorne (Calif.), Sr.
The Arizona State-bound senior didn't miss a beat after transferring from Mira Costa, clubbing nine homers with 30 RBIs on a .608 batting average. Leilua helped carry Hawthorne to an appearance in the CIF-SS D4 playoffs.

OF - Cherish Burks, East Union (Manteca, Calif.), Sr.
The Oregon-bound Burks led East Union to the CIF Sac-Joaquin Sectiom D3 title by hitting .550 (.654 on-base percentage), scoring 52 runs and driving home 31. She had 22 extra-base hits in EU's 30-3 season.

OF - Veronica Ruelius, Marengo (Ill.), Sr.
Ruelius, a Class 3A first-team all-state selection for the second-straight season, was an offensive juggernaut for the Indians with a school-record 17 home runs to go with 18 doubles, 63 runs scored and 65 RBIs. She hit .483 with a .578 on-base percentage and finished her four-year varsity career with a school-record 35 home runs. She will attend Illinois.

OF - Haley Bearden, Clarksville (Tenn.), Sr.
Bearden, who has signed with Tennessee, hit .426 with seven home runs, 14 doubles, 49 RBIs, 19 walks and a .690 on-base percentage. The 5-11 Bearden was also all-area MVP for basketball.

OF - Candice Corcoran, Morehead (Eden, N.C.), Sr.
Corcoran batted .613 (.642 on-base percentage and .709 slugging percentage), and stole 26 bases. She is a three-time N.C. Coaches' Association all-state honoree, Gildan Scholar-Athlete of the Year for Rockingham County and the NCHSAA Heart of a Champion Award recipient this year.

OF - Lauren Lewis, Baylor (Chattanooga, Tenn.), Sr.
Lewis, who homered in the state title game, led Baylor to its ninth state title and a 25-3 record as a senior. She finished with an .821 slugging percentage (16 extra-base hits), drove in 45 runs, scored 32 and batted .440. She has signed with Kentucky.



UTIL - Skyler Sobeski, Bronson (Mich.), Sr.
Sobeski did it all for Bronson en route to the state title game. She hit .547 with 62 runs, 20 doubles, 11 homers and 65 RBIs. She pitched as well, finishing 24-3 with a 0.65 ERA and 209 strikeouts. She will attend Western Michigan.

UTIL - Charlene Castro, Natalia (Texas), Sr.
Castro excelled in the circle (23-2, 0.74 ERA) and at the plate (12 HRs, 66 RBIs, .621 average). She has signed with Alabama State.

UTIL - Hannah Stewart, Bishop Ryan (Minot, N.D.), Sr.
The state's 2014-15 Gatorade Softball and Basketball State POY, she posted a 28-3 record along with a 1.05 ERA in the circle leading the Lions (31-3) to the Class A state semifinals. Stewart struck out 302 batters in 199 innings pitched and threw 10 shutouts, including two no-hitters. At the plate, the three-time Class A first-team all-state selection batted .587 with 13 home runs, 69 RBIs and a 1.174 slugging percentage. She has signed with Iowa.

UTIL - Meghan Wimmer, Chichester (Boothwyn, Pa.), Sr.
Wimmer led Chichester deep in the playoffs with a 22-3 record, 260 strikeouts and a 0.90 ERA. She also batted .528 and drove in 21 runs. She was the state 3A POY and has signed with Brown.
