JJ Wilcox commands the offense for a Cavaliers win

Recap: Durham Academy Cavaliers vs. Trinity of Durham and Chapel Hill Lion

The Durham Academy Cavaliers entered their tilt with the Trinity of Durham and Chapel Hill Lion with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Durham Academy strolled past Trinity of Durham and Chapel Hill with points to spare on Friday, taking the game 66-49. Given Durham Academy's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 154th, while Trinity of Durham and Chapel Hill is ranked 405th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Durham Academy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but JJ Wilcox led the charge by scoring 12 points along with nine rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Joshua Dorsette II, who scored 17 points.

When it comes to explaining why Trinity of Durham and Chapel Hill lost, one person who can't be blamed is Kyren Smith. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 28 points and 13 rebounds. The match was Smith's eighth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Zachary Powery, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 13 rebounds.

Trinity of Durham and Chapel Hill struggled to work together and finished the game with only three assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Durham Academy racked up 12 assists.

Durham Academy's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-4. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.0 points per game. As for Trinity of Durham and Chapel Hill, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-5.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Durham Academy will take on East Chapel Hill at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully East Chapel Hill focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 on Tuesday. Trinity of Durham and Chapel Hill will be home for the holidays to greet O'Neal at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. O'Neal comes in still looking for their first win of the season.
