Baseball Game Preview: Penn Hills Indians vs. Gateway Gators

Penn Hills is 0-7 against Gateway since April of 2019 but things could change on Thursday. The Indians will host the Gators at 4:00 p.m. Penn Hills has given up an average of 16.5 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Penn Hills is headed into Thursday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their 11th straight game dating back to last season on Tuesday. They came up short against Greater Latrobe, falling 20-1.

While Gateway didn't have the best season last year (they finished 4-14-1), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They had just enough and edged out McKeesport 3-2 on Tuesday. Those three runs were actually the fewest the Gators have put up all season, but given the result they're probably not too concerned.

Roman Jennings made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). Jennings was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one RBI.

In other pitching news, Cameron Gottschalk looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over four innings pitched.

Back at the plate, Donovan Deluco was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. Another player making a difference was Jon Saunders, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

The victory made it two in a row for Gateway and bumps their season record up to 5-1. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 2 run in those games. As for Penn Hills, their loss dropped their record down to 0-8.
