Baseball Game Preview: Marissa/Coulterville Meteors vs. Pinckneyville Panthers

The Marissa/Coulterville Meteors will square off against the Pinckneyville Panthers at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

On Wednesday, Marissa/Coulterville needed a bit of extra time to put away New Athens. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Yellow Jackets, sneaking past 4-3. The game was the first time the Meteors have beaten the Yellow Jackets on their field since May 5, 2022.

Marissa/Coulterville saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kadin Stewart, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.

Pinckneyville let New Athens stack four runs on them in the fifth inning on Tuesday but luckily Pinckneyville prevailed anyway. The Panthers skirted past the Yellow Jackets 7-5.

Marissa/Coulterville has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average over those games. As for Pinckneyville, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 13-14.

Marissa/Coulterville was able to grind out a solid win over Pinckneyville in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, winning 6-3. Will the Meteors repeat their success, or do the Panthers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
