Baseball Recap: Mount Union Has No Trouble Against Southern Huntingdon County

Mount Union not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since April 16th (when they won 10-0). They blew past the Southern Huntingdon County Rockets 13-3. The Trojans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine games by six runs or more this season.

Dylan Shawver was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base and two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jamon Ranck, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in March. Levi Hunsinger also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Mount Union always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .526. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Southern Huntingdon County only posted an OBP of .250.

Mount Union's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-4. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Southern Huntingdon County, they have been struggling recently as they've lost ten of their last 11 matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-14 record this season.
