Softball Recap: Ely Comes Up Short

If Ely was feeling good fresh off their 13-3 takedown of Two Harbors on Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Timberwolves came up short against the Greenway/Nashwauk-Keewatin Raiders on Friday, falling 14-4. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Timberwolves of the 12-4 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2025.

Lindi Zemke made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Amelia Penke, who got on base in two of her three plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

Ely has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-8 record this season. As for Greenway/Nashwauk-Keewatin, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season.

Ely will look to defend their home field on Saturday against Floodwood at 1:00 p.m. Greenway/Nashwauk-Keewatin does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
