Volleyball Game Preview: American Heritage Patriots vs. Salt Lake Academy Griffins

The American Heritage Patriots will take on the Salt Lake Academy Griffins in a tournament on Friday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

American Heritage was handed a three-set defeat in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Thursday. They skirted past Judge Memorial Catholic 3-2. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Patriots as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

American Heritage got the W, but it wasn't easy, at least in the third set. The final score came out to 25-22, 23-25, 29-31, 25-19, 16-14.

Meanwhile, Salt Lake Academy got the win against Wasatch Academy on Thursday by a conclusive 3-0. The Griffins haven't had any issues with the Tigers recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.

While Salt Lake Academy won a shutout, things came down to the wire in the second set they played. The match finished with set scores of 25-18, 27-25, 25-12.

American Heritage better focus on containing Gustavo Bombassaro Moro and Brock Rhodes as the pair were huge in Salt Lake Academy's win. Bombassaro Moro had six digs and three assists, while Rhodes had eight kills and two blocks. Those three assists gave Bombassaro Moro a new career-high. Tegho Castillo also deserves some recognition as he posted his first assist of the season.

Salt Lake Academy's record now sits at 11-5. As for American Heritage, the win was their first on the road , bumping their record up to 6-7.

American Heritage was able to grind out a solid victory over Salt Lake Academy in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, winning 2-0. Do the Patriots have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Griffins turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
