Basketball Recap: Booker Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Yvette Brown and Brianna Behn

Booker has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They were three points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 61-58 heartbreaker at the hands of the Lakewood Spartans. The Tornadoes were not able to make up for their defeat to the Spartans from their previous meeting back in February of 2024.

Brianna Behn and Yvette Brown certainly did their best on Tuesday to avoid the loss. Behn almost dropped a double-double on 18 points and nine rebounds, while Brown went 7 of 12 on her way to 18 points and six rebounds. Behn has been hot, having posted eight or more rebounds the last five times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Marayah Stuart, who posted six points.

Even though they lost, Booker smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in 14 consecutive contests.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Lakewood to victory, but perhaps none more so than Alahni Lovett, who went 9 of 22 on her way to 31 points. That's the most points Lovett has posted since back in February of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Sumayah McIntosh, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 13 boards.

Booker's loss dropped their record down to 9-5. As for Lakewood, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 11-6 record this season.

Booker will head out to challenge DeSoto County at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Booker is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 61.9 points per game this season. As for Lakewood, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Venice at 7:00 p.m.
