Softball Recap: Amboy Clippers vs. Polo Marcos
Amboy extended their losing streak to four on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 3-10-1 in the process. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost an 8-7 heartbreaker at the hands of the Polo Marcos. The Clippers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Marcos apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.
Polo's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-10. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
For Polo's part, Cheyenna (Chey) Wilkins made a splash no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run over 4.2 innings pitched. Wilkins has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in May of 2024.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Samantha Gray, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. Those two runs gave her a new career-high. Brylee Laskowski also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.
Polo has already played their next contest, a 7-1 loss against East Dubuque on the 23rd. Hopefully Amboy paid attention to the Marcos' game: the next time they hit the field, they'll take on the Marcos at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
