Wabash typically has all the answers at home, but on Friday Southwood proved too difficult a challenge. They were the clear victors by a 17-6 margin over the Apaches. The Knights haven't had any issues with the Apaches recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive win against them.
Natalie Sutphin made a splash while hitting and pitching. She tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 21 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with four RBI, one run, and one double. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Izzy Ashba was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Gracie Lambert was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.
Southwood was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .471. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .357 or higher in three consecutive games.
Southwood pushed their record up to 15-9 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.5 runs over those games. As for Adams Central, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-17.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Saturday. Adams Central hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.5 home runs per game. However, it's not like Southwood struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.6 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Adams Central suffered a grim 15-0 defeat to Southwood in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Can the Flying Jets avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
