Clairemont has gone 8-2 against University City recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Chieftains will head out on the road to challenge the Centurions at 4:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Clairemont has five straight wins, University City has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Clairemont had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 11-run drubbing they dealt Madison on Tuesday. The Chieftains blew past the Warhawks 15-4. Considering the Chieftains have won six games by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Maddy Finley was a standout: she got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Maelea Silao was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Clairemont was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .414. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .310 or higher in five consecutive matchups.
The home team had won the previous three meetings between University City and Canyon Hills, and Canyon Hills kept the tradition alive. The Centurions fell 4-0 to the Rattlers on Tuesday. While getting shut out isn't ideal, the Centurions haven't been shut out since back in March.
Clairemont pushed their record up to 10-7 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for University City, their loss dropped their record down to 5-12-1.
University City's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Clairemont hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .350. It's a different story for University City, though, as they've only averaged .252. Will they be able to contain Clairemont's hitters?
Clairemont came out on top in a nail-biter against University City when the teams last played back in April of 2023, sneaking past 6-4. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Chieftains since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
