Basketball Recap: Socorro Comes Up Short

Socorro played a tough game on Thursday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They had to suffer through a 61-25 loss at the hands of the Cobre Indians. The Warriors were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Indians apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in February of 2024.

Defeat or not, Socorro got some senior leadership from Adrianna Gutierrez and Ariana Crespin. Gutierrez posted four points along with seven rebounds and four steals, while Crespin almost dropped a double-double on nine points and nine boards. With that strong performance, Crespin is now averaging an impressive 2.1 steals per game.

Even though they lost, Socorro smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 13 offensive boards in three consecutive contests.

Socorro's loss dropped their record down to 2-18. As for Cobre, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 10-11.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Socorro will take on Hot Springs at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Cobre, they will challenge Hatch Valley at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Cobre is facing Hatch Valley at the right time seeing as Hatch Valley is stuck on a 13-game losing streak.
