Softball Recap: Haddam-Killingworth Snaps Six-Game Streak of Wins at Home

Haddam-Killingworth dropped their record down to 6-2 on Friday, which also ended the team's six-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season. They fell 4-0 to the North Branford Thunderbirds. Having soared to a lofty 15 runs in the game before, the Cougars' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Emma Giaccone spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and three unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Haddam-Killingworth saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Caley Napoletano, who went 1-for-2 with one double.

As for North Branford, the win keeps they at an undefeated 11-0. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 11.5 runs this season.

On North Branford's side, Lauren Vitarisi made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out six over seven innings pitched. Vitarisi was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, Adriana Hills was excellent, going 1-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run.

Haddam-Killingworth and North Branford should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Connecticut Rankings. The Cougars will challenge East Hampton at 3:45 p.m. on Monday with a big rank advantage (18 vs. 82). Meanwhile, North Branford (ranked sixth) will meet Cromwell (ranked 70th) at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
