Godby extended their losing streak to four on Tuesday, dropping them down to 1-10. They came up short against the Leon Lions, falling 31-4. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Lions this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 14-1 back in February.
Godby saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Tytus Evans, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That triple marked the first that Evans has hit this season.
As for Leon, the win got them back to even at 9-9. Considering they have won six contests by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
On Leon's side, Brayden Gregory was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Gregory also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Leon is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 7-8 otherwise. Gregory was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with six RBI, two runs, and one double. Those two runs gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Max Latimer was a standout: he got on base in five of his six plate appearances with four runs, four RBI, and one triple. Leon is 2-1 when Latimer posts three or more RBI, but 7-8 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Evans Franco, who got on base in all six of his plate appearances with five runs, three RBI, and one stolen base.
Coming up, Godby is taking a road trip to challenge Gadsden County at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Leon, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Miller County at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Lions will need to watch out since the Pirates have now posted at least ten runs in their last three matchups.
