Softball Game Preview: Byrd Yellow Jackets vs. St. Mary Tigers

The Byrd Yellow Jackets will head out on the road to face off against the St. Mary Tigers at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.

Byrd took a eight-run loss the last time they faced off against Caddo Magnet, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. Byrd had just enough and edged out Caddo Magnet 16-15 on Wednesday. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Fans were treated to a battle of the Tigers on Wednesday. St. Mary blew past Logansport 14-5. St. Mary might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three contests by nine runs or more this season.

St. Mary's victory was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 3-1. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Byrd, their win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 3-6.

Byrd suffered a grim 16-5 defeat to St. Mary in their previous meeting back in March of 2019. Can Byrd avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
