Football Recap: Los Alamos Hilltoppers vs. Valley Vikings
It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Los Alamos had no problem doing just that on Saturday. They were the clear victor by a 49-28 margin over the Valley Vikings. The Hilltoppers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven games by 21 points or more this season.
Los Alamos found their leader in sophomore Jordan Herrera, who rushed for 138 yards and two touchdowns. Herrera is on a roll when it comes to rushing touchdowns, as he's now punched in two or more in the last three games he's played. Jesus Diaz was another key player, gaining 95 total yards and a touchdown.
Los Alamos didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Antonio Griffith, Akim Leija, and Dylan Baca picked up one apiece.
Valley lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Joseph M. Martinez, who rushed for 66 yards and a touchdown. Another signal caller making a difference was Jose Jaramillo, who threw for 210 yards and three touchdowns.
The win was the eighth in a row for Los Alamos, bringing their record for this year to 8-3. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 29.9 points. As for Valley, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-7.
Los Alamos will challenge Gadsden at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Gadsden is coming into the contest with three straight losses on the road, meaning Los Alamos will have to defend against a squad hungry for a victory. Valley does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
