Creekview is 2-8 against Newman Smith since November of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Mustangs will square off against the Trojans at 7:00 p.m. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.
Creekview is headed into the contest out to prove that what happened against West Mesquite two weeks ago (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. The Mustangs took a blow against the Wranglers, falling 53-21. While losing is never fun, the Mustangs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 391st, while the Wranglers are ranked 150th).

Despite their defeat, Creekview saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Ahmari Washington, who picked up 91 receiving yards and two touchdowns, was perhaps the best of all. Brendyn Shed also helped out with an impressive 88 receiving yards.
Meanwhile, after soaring to 50 points the game before, Newman Smith was a bit more limited in their matchup on Friday. They came up short against West Mesquite, falling 35-12. The Trojans were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 28-6.
Like Creekview, Newman Smith lost despite seeing results from several players. Maxim Mingo led the charge by picking up 118 receiving yards and one score.
Even if they lost, Newman Smith's defensive line still kept up the pressure with four sacks. In that department, Gabe Haesacae was the leader with 2.5. Newman Smith got some further help from Markis Williams: he picked up a sack and made nine total tackles (2.0 for loss).
Newman Smith's loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 6-1 and their overall record down to 6-3. As for Creekview, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 8-1.
Creekview suffered a grim 38-12 defeat to Newman Smith in their previous matchup back in November of 2024. Can the Mustangs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
