Softball Recap: Springfield Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

Springfield came into Monday's contest having lost nine straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They walked away with an 11-6 win over the Wayne Warriors on Monday. That's more bragging rights for the Wildcats, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Leeauna Rardon was a major factor no matter where she played. She pitched five innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Springfield got a massive performance out of Jalynee Thomas, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those three RBI gave Thomas a new career-high. Caelyn Cave was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

Springfield kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. They are 2-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

Springfield's victory was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-8 and their overall record up to 4-9. As for Wayne, they are on an eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-9.

Springfield will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Warriors: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
