Baseball Recap: Henley Wins High-Profile Contest Against Hidden Valley

Henley faced Hidden Valley in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Wednesday. The Hornets came out on top against the Mustangs by a score of 7-2. The win continues a trend for the Hornets in their matchups with the Mustangs: they've now won nine in a row.

Mark Carpenter made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over 6.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off nine hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two RBI, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, Conner Shively was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. He has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last seven times he's played.

Henley's victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-2-1. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Hidden Valley, the loss snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 12-5 record.
