Basketball Recap: Lovington Comes Up Short

Lovington was the 39-36 winner over Carlsbad when they last played one another last Tuesday, but their luck changed this time around. The Lovington Wildcats took a 47-42 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Carlsbad Cavemen/Cavegirls. While the Wildcats didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Cavemen/Cavegirls 26-21 in the first quarter.

Despite the loss, Lovington still got an impressive performance from Ashelynn Borunda, who went 6 of 14 en route to 15 points along with eight boards and six assists. The match was Borunda's eighth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Abigail Shouse, who posted nine points and eight rebounds.

This is the second loss in a row for Lovington and nudges their season record down to 11-8. As for Carlsbad, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 15-5.

Lovington has already played their next contest, an 83-35 victory against Chaparral on the 24th. As for Carlsbad, they will challenge Clovis at 5:30 p.m. on January 28th. Clovis has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games.
