Basketball Recap: East Mecklenburg Takes a Loss

East Mecklenburg lost against Weddington back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The East Mecklenburg Eagles took a 56-47 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Weddington Warriors. The Eagles have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

When it comes to explaining why East Mecklenburg lost, don't look at Nixon Wright. Despite the final result, he went 9 of 12 on his way to 22 points along with seven boards and four blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Ahmari Hicks, who posted 13 points.

Kj Younger continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Weddington, going 7 of 13 on his way to 22 points and eight rebounds. The contest was Younger's 17th in a row with at least ten points. Mason Zepp was another key player, putting up 13 points.

East Mecklenburg's loss dropped their record down to 8-5. As for Weddington, their victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-4.

East Mecklenburg wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 70-44 defeat against Independence on the 9th. As for Weddington, they will face off against Sun Valley at 7:00 p.m. on January 17th. Weddington is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 62.4 points per game this season.
