Preview: Miami East Vikings vs. Memorial Roughriders
The Miami East Vikings and the Memorial Roughriders will round out the year against one another at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday at. Miami East will be coming into the game with an undefeated record on the line.
Even though Miami East has not done well against Versailles recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. It was close, but Miami East ultimately received the gift of a 41-39 victory from a begrudging Vikingssquad. Given their advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 15th, while Versailles is ranked 79th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Miami East's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Camryn Francis, who scored nine points along with five assists and four blocks. Those five assists set a new season-high mark for her. Another player making a difference was Maryn Gross, who scored eight points along with four steals.
Meanwhile, Memorial waltzed into their match Tuesday with three straight wins but they left with four. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Fort Recovery and snuck past 34-31.
Miami East pushed their record up to 8-0 with that victory, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season. As for Memorial, their win bumped their record up to 5-2.
Miami East didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against Memorial when the teams last played back in December of 2022, but they still walked away with a 32-28 win. Will Miami East repeat their success, or does Memorial have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
