Baseball Game Preview: John Marshall Monarchs vs. Brooke Bruins

For the first time this season, John Marshall will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. They will head out on the road to take on the Brooke Bruins at 5:15 p.m. on Tuesday. The last four games John Marshall has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

If John Marshall beats Brooke with three runs on Tuesday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two matches with that exact score. The Monarchs beat North Marion on Friday by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 3-1. The victory continues a trend for the Monarchs in their matchups with the Huskies: they've now won three in a row.

Hunter Coulter spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on eight hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Kayden Knapp was incredible, firing off two home runs and three RBI while going 2-for-3. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in runs (two). Cain Martin was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

They weren't the only ones working in the home run department: John Marshall lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Brooke fell victim to Wheeling Central Catholic and their airtight pitching crew on Monday. They lost 7-0 to the Maroon Knights. The Bruins just can't catch a break and have now endured three losses in a row.

Brooke's defeat dropped their record down to 15-12. As for John Marshall, their record now sits at 11-13.

John Marshall might still be hurting after the 13-5 loss they got from Brooke in their previous matchup back in March. Can the Monarchs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
