Baseball Game Preview: Rio Mesa Spartans vs. Oxnard Yellowjackets

For the second straight game, Rio Mesa will face off against Oxnard. The Spartans will square off against the Yellowjackets at 3:30 p.m. on Friday.

The home team had won the previous three meetings between Rio Mesa and Oxnard, and Rio Mesa kept the tradition alive. The Spartans sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-4 victory over the Yellowjackets on Tuesday.

Daniel Puebla tossed a big game, pitching six innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off eight hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Aiden Kleffel was excellent, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Those two runs gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Alec Fontyn, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI.

Rio Mesa's win bumped their record up to 7-18-1. As for Oxnard, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 9-16.
