Basketball Recap: Friday's Victory Is Chatham Central's Ninth in Last Ten Outings

Chatham Central won the last time they faced Bartlett Yancey and things went their way on Friday too. The Chatham Central Bears took down the Bartlett Yancey Buccaneers 72-57. Given the Bears' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 165th, while the Buccaneers are ranked 443rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Chatham Central had a senior duo take command as Reid Albright dropped a double-double on 23 points and ten boards and Luke Gaines went 7 of 12 en route to 24 points. The matchup was Albright's 11th in a row with at least ten points. Jeremiah Young was another key player, putting up ten points and four steals.

Chatham Central was working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Bartlett Yancey only racked up five assists.

Bartlett Yancey lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Jaden Carolina, who posted eight points along with 20 rebounds and four steals. Carolina is becoming a predictor of Bartlett Yancey's success: when he posts at least eight boards the team is 2-1 (and 2-6 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of James Jones, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 12 rebounds.

Chatham Central is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten games, which provided a nice bump to their 12-2 record this season. As for Bartlett Yancey, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-7.

Coincidentally, both will both be playing Seaforth the next time they take the court. Bartlett Yancey will host Seaforth at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, while Chatham Central will head out to face them at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
