Baseball Game Preview: Mt. Vernon Yellowjackets vs. Granville Blue Aces

The Mt. Vernon Yellowjackets will take on the Granville Blue Aces at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

While Mt. Vernon's win against Lexington wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Yellowjackets narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Minutemen 3-1. The win continues a trend for the Yellowjackets in their matchups with the Minutemen: they've now won six in a row.

Zac Clow was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out ten batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits (and not a single walk). Clow was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.

Clow wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Nolan Hershberger, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double. That double marked the first that Hershberger hit this season.

Meanwhile, Granville came tearing into Wednesday's match with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6.3 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They never let the Redskins get on the board and left with a 2-0 victory. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Blue Aces have posted against the Redskins since May 3, 2017.

Mt. Vernon's victory bumped their record up to 3-4. As for Granville, their win bumped their record up to 5-1.

Mt. Vernon came out on top in a nail-biter against Granville when the teams last played back in April of 2023, sneaking past 8-7. Do the Yellowjackets have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Blue Aces turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
